The Welsh Pony

The Welsh pony is a very versatile breed of pony that has six different breeding lines so we can rightly say that this is a family pony par excellence. It is an ideal riding pony for both large and small children while adults are excellent for riding a Welsh Cob, but Welsh ponies are also an ideal choice for carriage work.

Section A

The Welsh Mountain, no taller than 1.21.9 meters

The Section A is also called Welsh Mountain Pony and is at the foundation of all Welsh breeding. An austere, intelligent pony with an excellent character that can be described as temperamental but very honest. Suitable as a riding pony for the smallest children as well as for the slightly older children who want something more. Section A ponies are indispensable in the driving sport and play an important role at international level.

The Welsh pony, not exceeding 1.37.2 meters in height

The general description of ponies in section A of the studbook is applicable to ponies in section B. The section B pony can be seen as a quality riding pony with body, good riding type movements and a lot of pony charisma. But not only suitable for riding under saddle, these ponies also do well in all branches of carriage sports.

The Welsh pony of the Cob type, not exceeding 1.36.9 meters in height

Through the influence of the Welsh Cob, the section C pony has developed into a robust pony with lots of breed appeal. A versatile pony that can be ridden by children and adults alike and is also frequently used in the harness sport. A brave, strong pony with lots of stamina. In short, a real all-rounder.

The Welsh Cob is an impressive appearance with its robust body and impressive movements, combined with lots of Welsh charisma and temperament. Temperament which is extremely well led and therefore the Welsh Cob offers many opportunities in the sport, both under saddle and in harness. The ideal companion for an adult with a preference for ponies.

Dutch Welsh Riding Pony

The NWR pony is a Welsh-based riding pony, not less than 25 % Welsh (section A or B) blood; if the percentage of Welsh blood is less than 100 %, only English, Arabian or Anglo-Arabian thoroughbreds are allowed.
Standing height for mares minimum 1.38 m, for stallions minimum 1.38 m, maximum 1.569 m. Target size: the D size used in sport, preferably 1.46 -1.48 m
A wonderful sport pony who is well known both in basic sport and at the high international level.

WPBR Section

The WPBR pony is a Welsh-based riding pony, similar to the Welsh Part Bred Register of the mother studbook in Great Britain, the mother studbook has no breed description.
Height of Breeding: No requirement, the target size for the WPBR is between 1.35m and 1.569m where the quality of the pony profiles above the height of the pony.
Within this section, all crosses with Welsh ponies are allowed, provided there is a minimum of 12.5 % Welsh blood in the pony's pedigree. In breeding, the emphasis is on the utilitarian traits while paying attention to sufficient Welsh appearance. The WPBR is very versatile in the sport.
