General appearance: riding type with already remotely recognizable Welsh appearance, nobility and fine skin, harmonious conformation and a look of distinction.
Color: all colors except plate fur
Head: noble, relatively small in proportion, dry, and well set on,wide between the eyes, fine around the nose
Eyes: great and brave
Ears: small and well placed
Nostrils: large and open
Jaws and throat passage: dry and finely cut, with ample throatiness
Neck: sufficiently long, with sufficient length in the neck and nice upper muscling
Shoulders: long and sloping, with well-developed withers
Front legs: correct and straight set, hard and dry, with long, muscular forearm, well-developed joints, sufficiently long, sloping legs and well-developed, hard feet
Back and loins: Well-connected and muscular, with adequate length and flexion, and a flowing gait
Chest: fairly deep
Ribs: well curved, not too round
Croupe: Long, sloping, well-muscled, with nicely planted and beautifully carried tail, which must be emphatically not thrown on the back.
Hind legs: hard and dry, with well-developed joints, correctly set, i.e., not stretched or saber-legged; the hocks should be large, flat and dry with clearly defined heels, the shank broad and muscular, the pasterns sufficiently long and sloping, the feet well-developed, with hard hooves.
Motion: square, elastic and carried, forward-upward, with balance, space and regularity; the foreleg is generously put away, with a stabby movement not desired; the hindquarters well accommodated with plenty of flexion in all joints.
