Are you just getting started with the beautiful Welsh breed and thinking, “Help, where do I start?” Then you've come to the right place! On this page we will explain to you step by step what you need to know and arrange.

First of all: welcome to the world of Welsh ponies

Before you proceed, it is important to become a member of the NWPCS (Dutch Welsh Pony & Cob Studbook) and have your pony registered in your name.

Also be sure to take the time to read our practical tips so you can prepare and present your pony in the best possible way. Together we will make it a great experience!

Tips for Preparing Your Pony for an Inspection
Good preparation is half the battle. Below you will find practical tips to best prepare your pony for the inspection:

🐴 General Care and Training
Train your pony on time: Not only nutrition makes a difference, but training in particular ensures that your pony is fit and in the best possible condition for the inspection.
Regular hoof care: Don't have the farrier come just before the inspection. Proper maintenance prevents stand abnormalities and ensures a neat appearance.
Practice washing: Start practicing washing your pony on time. This will help you avoid stress on the day.
Clean halter: Use a clean and washed halter when washing so your pony's head does not get dirty again.

🧼 Equipment and Care Products
New blankets or hoodies: Wash new materials in advance to prevent them from bleeding on your pony's coat.
Check all supplies: Make sure you have everything well in advance: show halters, brushes, grooming products, ropes, etc.

🐎 Preparation for the Inspection
Read the question program carefully: That way you will know exactly what is expected at the judging.
Vaccinations in order: Check vaccination requirements well in advance and make sure your pony meets all requirements.
Practice lining up and walking along: At home, get your pony used to walking along and lining up as it will at the judging.
Trailer loading practice: Start practicing trailer loading on time. This will help you avoid panic or stress on the day of departure.
Bringing Foals: Let a foal get used to a halter and walk along in time so that it is not a surprise at the judging.

🚗 On the Day Itself
Route planning: Plan your route well and check for roadworks so that you arrive on time and stress-free.
Listen to the volunteers: They are there to help you and make the judging an enjoyable experience for everyone. Make sure they have a great day, too.

Going to a judging well prepared not only ensures a better result, but also an enjoyable day for you and your pony!

What do I bring to an inspection?

Should I also give up my foal?

If you want both your mare and foal to be judged, you must enter both ponies separately for judging

Should my mare also be vaccinated when showing the foal?

Yes also if you only want to show your foal the mare must be vaccinated.

How do I find a presenter?

We have a page listing handlers who have made themselves available. Please note that not every handler will be present at every show. Call or email well in advance to find someone.

Where can I find what my pony must meet?

Look for this in the breeding plan per section there you can find what your pony must meet

Is there also the possibility of homeschooling?

No we do not have this capability (yet)

Can I ask the jury for advice?

After the ponies are placed in the section, you, the owner, may enter the track and receive the judges' comments in person.

If the result is disappointing can I go to the inspection again?

Yes you can participate in a regional judging every year. If the result is disappointing or you would like to participate again, you can participate again the following year.

Will I get bridle numbers at the judging?

No these should bring yourself.

Do I also need to wear special clothing?

Yes you must be dressed in white when entering the ring. When presenting, chasing and holding the foal.
