Breed Description Section D
Breed description section D
General appearance: strong, hard and active, with pony charisma and as much mass as possible.
Color: any color except plate fur.
Head: lots of quality and pony appearance. A coarse head and a ram's head are highly undesirable.
Eyes: large and bold, excellent and widely spaced.
Ears: fine and well placed.
Neck: Long and well-behaved. Reasonably slender in mares, but tendency for a heavy mane crest in mature stallions.
Shoulders: strong, but sloping backward.
Front legs: Square set and free in the elbows. A long, strong forearm. The knees well developed and abundant bone underneath. The legs proportionally sloping and long. The feet well-shaped. The hooves hard. In natural condition, a reasonable amount of silky hair is allowed, but coarse stringy hair is absolutely objectionable.
Centerpiece: Back and loins muscular, strongly connected. Deep and well closed.
Croupe: long and strong. An angular or drooping croup is objectionable.
Tail: well turned on.
Hind legs: strong and muscular shins.
Jump joints: Large, flat and dry with clearly defined hocks, which should not be set inward or outward. The hind legs should not be too bent. The hock should not be behind a line running from the ischial tubercle down to the fetlock. The legs should be proportionally sloping and long. The feet well formed. The hooves hard.
Motion: Free and correct and powerful. In trot, the knee should be bent and the whole foreleg extended straight from the shoulder as far as possible. Lots of flexion in the hocks, brought straight and powerfully under the body.
