brexit transport from Jan. 1, 2021

Since Jan. 1, 2021, the Brexit has been a reality, fortunately with a deal although it was close. In the first week, the tension was almost palpable to see what the consequences of this separation would be and how companies and carriers managed to get through it.

So far, the traffic in the ports seems to be not too bad, it should be noted that between Calais and Dover there has been 50% less traffic in recent weeks. This is due to several reasons, trade needs to pick up after the vacations but traders are also taking a wait-and-see attitude. Both the English side and the European side have stockpiled and, for example, shipments with cargo that has a limited shelf life have been postponed. The coronavirus is also playing an important role in this because due to the lockdowns, many stores, restaurants, etc. are not open and therefore do not need to be supplied. Things are expected to get busier again in the near future.

In a nutshell

Things are also changing when transporting horses between the EU and the UK. European Horse Services (EHS) has listed these changes that you can find in this link can find.
