Introducing: June 2020 Online Foal Champion

In the second half of September 2020, you’ll have the opportunity to vote for your favorite in the 2020 Online Foal Champion contest. The candidates are the Online Foal Champions from April through August. In the coming days, we’ll be introducing the monthly champions to you one by one. This time, it’s Powerplay Emelwerth’s turn—June’s favorite.

Participants were asked to submit three photos of the monthly champion. One of the foal standing, one of the foal in motion and one photo of the foal's head.

During this month, it will be possible for everyone to vote for your favorite for the title through a poll on this website. In addition, NWPCS members may submit their placement of the first three by email. In addition, NWPCS judge Davy Wormgoor will place and comment on the foals.

Powerplay Emelwerth

NWPCS Online Foal Champion for June 2020

Breeder and owner Monica Groothuis says: ”Powerplay Emelwerth (by Dempsy Chicago) is the fourth colt born to our mare Hester Emelwerth. His half-brother, Magic Mike Emelwerth, was awarded the ”Ster’ predicate at the most recent stallion inspection. We hope that Powerplay can go one better in 2023!”

“He’ll grow up at our home pony breeding farm. Powerplay is a special foal to us; in early July, he fell ill overnight and was covered in bumps from head to toe. At first, we thought it was an allergic reaction, but he didn’t get better, and the bumps turned into scabs. The Wolvega Veterinary Clinic examined him thoroughly, and within a few days the results of the skin biopsies came back: Powerplay had the autoimmune disease pemphigus foliaceus. He has since recovered well on the medication, which we are currently tapering off. Unfortunately, because of this, we weren’t able to take him to the inspection we had signed him up for, but luckily he still has his whole future ahead of him! He’s now regained his coat and is once again a handsome and healthy foal.”
