NWR Stud Book Stallion Coelenhage’s Handsome King (by King William), the performance champion of the most recent performance test, will move to his new rider, 13-year-old Dena Lammers, after the Central Stallion Inspection.

Dennis and Anoeska Lammers purchased the chestnut stallion Coelenhage’s Handsome King for their daughter, Dena Lammers. Dena currently rides two palomino Welsh pony geldings: Anjershof Memorie (s. Vita Nova’s Celesto, d. Anjershof Romy) and Goud TS (s. Don Cremello Du Bois, d. Heide’s Berg Delissa). The latter will go to his new rider after the championships.

Pedigree

Handsome King is a son of King William and thus also a half-brother to the WPBR studbook stallion Coelenhage’s Happy Hour. His dam is Compagnon’s Hannah, the section champion in Heteren in 2015. Hannah’s dam is the crown mare Coelenhage’s Heidi, who also gave birth to the studbook stallion Compagnon’s Humphrey (by Wengelo’s Ricardo), among others. Several other studbook stallions come from the same line. Furthermore, several ponies from the same mare line have achieved great success in the sport, including Wengelo’s Ricardo, Coelenhage’s Let’s Be the Best, and Coelenhage’s Purioso.

‘This is really my dream pony.’

Dena Lammers

The Lammers family discovered Handsome King through instructor Tessa Sweeb. “I got in touch with Willard Leeuwis, and that’s how we ended up with Handsome,” Sweeb explains. “We’d been looking for a D-pony for Dena for a while. I’d already seen Handsome at the stallion inspection and was an instant fan of his. Dena didn’t know him yet, but when she rode Handsome for the first time, her immediate reaction was, ‘This is truly my dream pony.’”

With Sweeb’s guidance, Dena will train Dena de Vos as best she can, at her own pace, to ultimately bring out the very best in him. “We have every confidence in him. He’s an incredibly talented, eager-to-work, and delightful pony to work with, with a fantastic temperament.”

Will remain available

Coelenhage’s Handsome King will be gelded for the benefit of the sport, but through his breeder, Ronald Vrolijken, he will remain available for breeding via frozen semen. “Handsome will stay with Vrolijken until the stallion inspection, and then he’ll move in with us. Until then, Dena and I will go to Wezep once or twice a week to ride Handsome, and Julia Vrolijken will ride him the rest of the week.”
