The 2019 Royal Welsh Agricultural Show (RWAS) took place this week, from Monday, July 22 to Thursday, July 25 at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells, Wales. Among the many ‘Dutch successes,’ including those of Potteries Simon, Ysselvliedts Nushki and Sunstars Contador who each earned a (reserve) championship title
The event could count on many ‘overseas’ visitors and certainly a fair number of participants from the other side of the ‘pond’. Successes were achieved by Dutch participants, Dutch bred ponies and offspring of Dutch ponies.
Vivian Hesen posted a Facebook message every day about these successes on her page: Vivian Hesen Photography, including photos, of course. Below are the results she collected.
Monday
No top ten places on Monday for the ‘Dutch’, but still noteworthy performances. First up was the Dutch-bred Cunera William Ap Lloyd in the ridden Welsh Cob geldings class. The gelding gave a nice show and was allowed to stay in for further inspection after the first selection by the judges.

Next in the lane came Marit Timmermans and Emma van der Burg with their Welsh Cob stallions Foryd Daniel and Flowergirls Towy. They too gave a nice presentation and were both allowed to stay inside for further inspection. (Also read: RWAS debut Emma van der Burg: ‘Indescribable, really very cool’)
Tuesday
On Tuesday, there were top 10 placings for Dutchmen, Dutch-bred ponies and/or offspring of Dutch ponies.
For example, there was a 7th place for the section A mare Real Surprise SV by and with Daan Voets. The keur mare was recently reserve champion of the day in Putten. A beautiful appearance with a somewhat tense Daan. The mare gave a nice show in trot and also managed to attract the attention of the judges.

Also appearing in this class, non-lactating mares age 8 and older, were Tamevalley Tabitha (by Highflown Japhet) and Sarum Rippling Rose (by Vechtzichts Hywel). They too did not remain undeserving with a 5th and 11th place finish.
In the lactating mares 4 to 7-year-old category, Sunwillow Titania (by Langevoren Reuben) and Shamrocklake Royal Chilean were 7th and 8th, respectively.
There were also successes to be described in the category of nursing mares older than 8 years. In 3rd place was allowed to draw up Tamevalley Sara (by Highflowns Japhet) and in 4th place the successful Shamrocklake Royal Charikila.
The fillies by Shamrocklake Royal Chilean and Shamrocklake Royal Charikila were also shown for us and were awarded 5th and 7th place.
Potteries Simon ‘flies’ to second spot
Two Dutch Section A stallions enter the track with much spectacle to compete with all the other participants in the 4- to 7-year-old stallion class. Studbook stallion Potteries Simon flies through the track and cheers rise from the stands. Under loud cheers, Potteries Simon obtains second place.
Hoekhorst Example also put its best foot forward and finished in 8th place.
In the 8 years and older stallions, another Highflowns Japhet offspring, namely Tamevalley Tigga. After a detailed inspection and a lot of patience, we see this stallion lined up 3rd.
Wednesday
In Sections A and B on Wednesday again several successes for Dutch appearances, or with a Dutch touch.
Offspring Powys Sprite
In the section A yearling stallions, two sons of Powys Sprite competed. In 2nd place was allowed to line up Glebedale Jumanji and 6th place was for Glebedale Silverdot.
In the yearling mares and geldings section A also two descendants of Dutch stallions entered the track. Here was again a second place for a Glebedale pony, namely Glebedale Sancerre (by Powys Sprite). Seventh place was for Ceulan Ceinwen (by Ysselvliedts High-wood).

In the three-year-old stallion class, Noaberhoeve Clinton (by Nantdywyll Penaig) of the Schulenburg family was awarded a nice third place.
Ysselvliedt's Nodawl (s. Egoes Pickle-O) made it to the final five to trot over. unfortunately, he became colicky and after a nice individual show still left the track. Fortunately, Nodawl is doing well again.
The three-year-old mares and geldings entered the ring next. In the last regular class was the mare Vughterheide Sweet Georgia of the South (by Ilsyn George O'r North) of Peter and Eveline Wijfelaars in action. She was rewarded with an eighth place.

Due to the performance of Potteries Simon during Tuesday's 4-7 year old stallion class, he was allowed to return on Wednesday for the male championship. As we are used to from this stallion, he flew through the track with the necessary encouragement. And not without merit! Potteries Simon became reserve male champion!
In section B, in the yearling stallions, a Cadlanvalley pony came in, unfortunately the name of this pony is not in the catalog. But this pony is out of Shamrocklake Irish Cornflower. This stallion was awarded 8th place.
Also in section B, the 3-year-old Heniart Arietta (s. Steehorst Kyro) managed to win the reserve youth championship.
In the ridden section a, Ysselvliedts Nushki won a handsome 1st place and went on to become champion ridden section A.

Thursday
In the section four-year-old and older section B stallions, Ingrid Delaitre's NWPCS-approved stallion Adagio de l'Aurore (by Heniarth Wood-wind) managed to run off with second place. Also in this class a Dutch success with Jordy Plender and the studbook stallion Maarlen's Romeo (by Rondo's Gentleman). He was awarded 5th place.

Also in the section C, a stallion approved in the Netherlands came on the scene. Dycot Equility (by Cargarsar Silver Shadow) managed to secure fourth place in a strong group.
In the Mountain & Moorland ridden section A, Sunstars Contador (by Blanche Grandee) managed to take the win. He then also won best ridden section A & B and may go to the Horse of the Year Show in October. Ysselvliedts Nushki (by Heniarth Quinnell) was awarded a 5th place.
