RWAS debut Emma van der Burg: ‘Indescribable, really cool’

July 23, 2019

After months of preparation, Emma van der Burg with the Welsh Cob stallion Flowergirls Towy made her debut at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show (RWAS) yesterday. “No way to describe it. Really cool,” she says when we ask her a day later how it felt to ride in the ‘Main Ring’.

Together with Marit Timmermans and the studbook stallion Foryd Daniël, Emma went on the adventure. With their Cob stallions, they took the boat to England last week and then traveled on to Wales to compete on the sacred Welsh turf in the ridden class for Welsh Cob stallions. On Thursday, they saddle Towy and Daniel again for two classes.

For Emma, riding at the RWAS yesterday was a debut. Marit has entered the ‘Main Ring’ at the Royal Welsh Showground many times before with Welsh Ponies and Cobs.

Dreams come true

“We did it!!! Wow, what an indescribable feeling to drive in the Main Ring. We got to stay in and rode a fantastic ride. The guest rider looked very pleased on him. He also had good marks for his build. I'm super proud of Flowergirls Towy. Thank you boy for making my dreams come true. My friend Marit and Daniel also did very well; congratulations. Thursday we go for it again. A special thank you to Jos and Berthy Elskamp for breeding Towy and the support to be able to do all this!”, Emma describes her feelings.
