Jonkers’ Olivier “Nicest Old Welsh of 2024”

After an exciting battle, Jonkers’ Olivier ran away with the title “Nicest Old Welsh of 2024.” With almost 700 votes, we may again speak of a successful edition.

Actually it is hard to choose which old Welsh is really the nicest, but still you managed to make a choice. This year again with “bonus” points for the vote of NWPCS members.

As the winner of the election, Jonkers’ Olivier will receive a beautiful halter with rope from the Welsh Studbook. The PR committee will be in touch about this.

Description

Jonker's Olivier is for us the king of our stables and we cannot imagine our stable and breeding without him. With his 70+ offspring and rankings in the sport (ZZ light dressage, L eventing among the horses and Z jumping) he has proven his all-round, reliable and golden character. Luckily we still have yearly offspring of him and he is enjoying his retirement. We hope to have him with us for a very long time and deserves to be in the spotlight! ❤️

 2nd place: Gelpenberg's Sarina

Born: May 11, 2000 / 24 years old
Gender: Mare
v. Casperhof's Freddy
m. Gelpenberg's Sandra

Breeder: H. Boersma
Owners: H.R. Dekkers
Submitter: Linda van der Kooi-Reitsma

Description

We have the cutest, but also the sweetest old Welsh. Gelpenberg's Sarina is now 24 years old and last summer, together with our 8 year old daughter Tessa, became Friesian champion bixie. Sarina of course already has quite a record of merit in terms of breeding, but as a pony for our daughter she adds to it. If this election is about age with corresponding behavior, she does not win it, because she often still behaves like a very young and fast pony. We are eternally grateful to the owner for allowing us to have Sarina here at the stable and hope in this way to put both Sarina and Richard in the limelight a bit.

Description

I'd like to introduce you to River, for us the absolute best “old welsh”. She is 26 years old and still in great shape. For the children who learn to ride her, she is very sweet and patient. Most of the time then 😉 . She is always calm and reliable and sometimes a tad stubborn. But that is exactly what makes her so much fun.
River lives at Hippisch Centrum Groesbeek and loves outdoor riding immensely. That is possible here in the area. She also likes to cross in the indoor arena when she gets the chance. When I come into the barn and walk up to her, she immediately starts to grunt. Then she knows I have a treat for her.
If you guys knew her, I'm sure you would find her the cutest too!
Greetings Fedde (9) and hoofs of River.

4th place: Baggelveld's Sonja

v. Double “P” ‘ Habanero
m. Rosina
mf. Hoefke's Timbrie
Breeder: A. Rozema-de Vries
Owners: A. Rozema-de Vries
Submitter: A. Rozema-de Vries

Description

Sonja is now 30 years old and together with a number of daughters, grand- and great-granddaughters is part of our Baggelveld team. In the 20 years that we have been teaching elementary school children, offering coaching courses and many other fun things, Sonja has taught many children the basics of pony handling and pony riding. With her sweet, patient, and also a little naughty character she conquers the hearts of everyone. Despite her advanced age, she still participates in regular lessons and is no less impressive than the young ponies. Eating and snacking is her hobby, she likes to sniff in coat pockets and always inspects the children's grooming kits. Unfortunately, her teeth let her down a bit, but with good dental care and a special diet, she is still in great shape and we hope to enjoy her for a long time.

Gerwin is now 23 years old and this year ran his last competition at the Hippiade in the ZZ skill class. We bought him as a 3 year old and he has won the Hippiade 5 times. Since 2011 he has only missed 1. He has also been district champion and Apeldoorn champion several times. Further victories are too many to mention. Such a topper we will not soon find again.
