Nicest old welsh all nominated

By now tradition, the election “cutest old welsh” has started again. That the welsh pony can get very old is proven by the entries of all 20+ ponies every year. This year there are 17 participants of which the 30 year old Baggeveld's Sonja is the oldest participant. Perhaps nice to mention is that her daughter Baggeveld's Simone of 22 years also participates in the election.

Like last year, an NWPCS halter and rope will be available for the winner of the pageant and, in addition, the winning photo will be featured in the Welsh Pony and Cob Magazine.

This year we made a slight change to voting.

• Votes from non-members are worth 1 vote
• Votes from members are worth 5 votes
• Only one vote may be cast per member number or if no member per email address.

Should we doubt the validity of the votes, a participant will be disqualified.

Below are all the nominees. And at the very bottom of the post, you can vote for your favorite.

Voting is possible until Sunday, November 10

Kimberly we have had since the summer, actually she was on trial for a girl from the village. But they thought she was too old. Because of that I took her out for a trial. It clicked so well, after a serious operation this year and not riding her for a few years, Kimberly gave me the confidence to enjoy riding her outside again. At the party last night she officially became ours. Now she can enjoy her retirement and I can enjoy her !

Gelpenberg's Sarina

CV
Section B
Born: May 11, 2000 / 24 years old
Gender: Mare
v. Casperhof's Freddy
m. Gelpenberg's Sandra
mf. Roeland
Breeder: H. Boersma
Owners: H.R. Dekkers
Submitter: Linda van der Kooi-Reitsma

Description

We have the cutest, but also the sweetest old Welsh. Gelpenberg's Sarina is now 24 years old and last summer, together with our 8 year old daughter Tessa, became Friesian champion bixie. Sarina of course already has quite a record of merit in terms of breeding, but as a pony for our daughter she adds to it. If this election is about age with corresponding behavior, she does not win it, because she often still behaves like a very young and fast pony. We are eternally grateful to the owner for allowing us to have Sarina here at the stable and hope in this way to put both Sarina and Richard in the limelight a bit.

Alezan

CV
Section A

Gender: Stallion
v. Good Hope's Zorby
m. Sara
mv. Moorcock Bracken
Breeder: A.J. Schagen
Owners: J. de Boer
Submitter: J. de Boer

Description

Alezan is the cutest old Welsh! 28 years young and a super slime, compassionate and cooperative pony. But he certainly still stands his ground in the herd as well. Lovely to see hm galloping to the fresh grass with the others in the morning! He competed in marathon and skill in the four-horse team until he was 23, and is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement. Although, the occasional outing in front of the wagon he still enjoys!

Hoefke's Riverdown

CV
Section A
Born: May 20, 1998 / 26 years old
Gender: Mare
v. Knodishall Geraint
m. Riverdown April
mv. Forlan Torchlight
Breeder: H.A. Peters
Owners: Equestrian Center Groesbeek, H. Thijssen & J. van Ballegooijen.
Submitter: Fedde

Description

I'd like to introduce you to River, for us the absolute best “old welsh”. She is 26 years old and still in great shape. For the children who learn to ride her, she is very sweet and patient. Most of the time then 😉 . She is always calm and reliable and sometimes a tad stubborn. But that is exactly what makes her so much fun.
River lives at Hippisch Centrum Groesbeek and loves outdoor riding immensely. That is possible here in the area. She also likes to cross in the indoor arena when she gets the chance. When I come into the barn and walk up to her, she immediately starts to grunt. Then she knows I have a treat for her.
If you guys knew her, I'm sure you would find her the cutest too!
Greetings Fedde (9) and hoofs of River.

Our Jessica is now 22 years old and owned by us for 3 years, she is now a fly grey but to us a pony of gold.
Incredibly sweet, well-behaved, enthusiastic and up for anything.
There is dressage, jumping, outdoor riding, beach riding, cross country, tricks, marathon and skill under saddle done with her and she loves everything.
100% traffic-proof, you can crawl under it, familiar for little kids and challenging for bigger ones.
She is still in top shape and certainly deserved the title.

Meanwhile, Michelle is enjoying her well-deserved retirement but can certainly still enjoy a short ride. We hope to enjoy many more years of our “Mies”

Shine's Bolero came to us when he was 18. Now he is 28. A super nice learning pony with antics. But not mean. He is the boss of the herd at home. And dribbles into the pasture with us every morning. In the evening along to the stable where his slobber awaits. Because with a few teeth left and 4 molars, he's an old man.

Baggelveld's Sonja

CV
Section A
Born: March 27, 1994 / 30 years old
Gender: Mare
v. Double “P” ‘ Habanero
m. Rosina
mf. Hoefke's Timbrie
Breeder: A. Rozema-de Vries
Owners: A. Rozema-de Vries
Submitter: A. Rozema-de Vries

Description

Sonja is now 30 years old and together with a number of daughters, grand- and great-granddaughters is part of our Baggelveld team. In the 20 years that we have been teaching elementary school children, offering coaching courses and many other fun things, Sonja has taught many children the basics of pony handling and pony riding. With her sweet, patient, and also a little naughty character she conquers the hearts of everyone. Despite her advanced age, she still participates in regular lessons and is no less impressive than the young ponies. Eating and snacking is her hobby, she likes to sniff in coat pockets and always inspects the children's grooming kits. Unfortunately, her teeth let her down a bit, but with good dental care and a special diet, she is still in great shape and we hope to enjoy her for a long time.

Baggelveld's Simone

CV
Section A
Born: July 10, 2002 / 22 years old
Gender: Mare
v. Churchwood President
m. Baggelveld's Sonja
mv. Double “P” ‘ Habanero
Breeder: A. Rozema-de Vries
Owners: A. Rozema-de Vries
Submitter: A. Rozema-de Vries

Description

Simone is a daughter of Baggelveld's Sonja, is 22 years old and, like her mother, is part of our Baggelveld team. In the 20 years that we have been small-scale teaching elementary school children, offering coaching courses and many other fun things, Simone has taught many children the basics of pony handling and pony riding. She plays a very important role in our team. With her super sweet character, her endless patience, and great willingness to work, she does everything to help and please the children. Uncertain children often get their confidence back through her and dare e.g. after a while to gallop. We often hear the comment: “If only Simone would grow with us, because soon we will be too big and won't be able to ride her anymore!” Needless to say, we all hope that Simone will stay with us for a long time!

Unfortunately, voting is no longer possible!
