Gwynfaes Culhwch
Five Section D stallions are taking on the challenge this year and will compete at the CHK in hopes of being promoted to studbook stallion status. The participants range in age from three to 10 years.
First up is the three-year-old Stampingground Macho, a palomino son of the French-born stallion Sublime Sponte, who carries a great deal of Trevallion blood on his sire’s side. His dam is the crown mare Stampingground Splash, the 2023 national reserve section champion. Her sire is the multiple champion Gwynfaes Culhwch, who for years convincingly topped the sire ratings in his home country. Culhwch is the sire of, among others, the studbook stallion Caederwen Saracen.
Among the older stallions to be newly registered, two four-year-olds will be appearing in the arena. Both are bay and were bred at the Pennal Stud in Wales; they come from different bloodlines but also share common traits. Pennal The Dutchman is a son of Pennal Mr. President out of the ster mare Ilston Lady Marie. Mr. President’s sire is the well-known and successful Gwenllan Brynmor, who achieved high scores in his home country and whose offspring in the Netherlands include, for example, the Keur Preferente mare Bryncomin Brenhiness. Ilston Lady Marie came to the Netherlands later in life. Pennal Mr. Oliver is a son of Butleigh Stardust out of Pennal Lady Go Bang, a daughter of Pennal Brynmor. In this stallion, we also see the bloodlines of Gwenllan Brynmor and Gwenllan Sam, but through the dam and in both her sire and dam lines.
Next is the five-year-old, falcon-colored Fjordglimt Golden Dean. He was born in Denmark, the son of Trevallion Golden Boy, by Trevallion Hooch. His dam is Blackrock Delyth, the daughter of Soden Gwynfor and Goshenstreet Diana.
Finally, the ten-year-old black Glyncoch Evogue, sired by Kallistalodge Mattie, a son of Trevallion Jumping Jack Flash and Fronarth Falmai. Evogue’s dam is Glansiedi Arwen Evenstar, a daughter of Caenest Tywysog and Glansiedi Misty.
A wonderfully varied selection that Cob enthusiasts are sure to be curious about!
