Silvester van de Vogelweide and his mother, Nilantshoeves Freelanthe
The Welsh Section B colt Silvester van de Vogelweide (by Woldberg’s Rossini) is the 500th foal registered with the NWPCS in 2022. This bay son of Nilantshoeve’s Freelanthe (by Warmtebron’s Fifty-Fifty) was born on June 12, 2022, and registered by his breeders, Vogelzang Stal 26, on June 21.
“Our ponies are all registered under Audrey Vogelzang’s name, but they belong to our company, Vogelzang Stal 26,” David Dekker begins. “Audrey and Inge Vogelzang jointly run a riding school, a boarding and trading stable, and a small-scale breeding operation. I’m Inge’s husband, and I manage the breeding operation.”
Nilantshoeve's Freelanthe
“Silvester’s dam, Nilantshoeve’s Freelanthe, was purchased by us a few years ago, initially for the riding school. She took to the work well, and because of her good temperament and attitude, we decided to start breeding with her. We’ve been breeding KWPN horses for years, but this is the first Welsh mare we’ve used for breeding, so it was all new to us in terms of stallions. For the first foal, we chose the stallion Lord Markham; we now have a very beautiful falcon-colored yearling filly by him (Ruby Rainbow van de Vogelweide), and she’s out in the pasture with us. ”In general, we keep everything with us until it’s three years old and ready for training. Then we’ll decide what to do with it.”
Woldberg's Rossini
“For our second foal, we chose Woldberg’s Rossini because this sturdy stallion has great presence, excellent movement, and a lovely temperament. We also think Freelanthe is a very beautiful mare, so we expected the foal to be even more beautiful. And that’s exactly what happened—she gave birth to a stunning colt with plenty of breed and movement; perhaps even one for the stallion inspection. Freelanthe has since been bred again, this time to Pytron’s Brenin.”.
Schoonebeek Inspection
“We’ve entered Freelanthe and Silvester in the inspection this coming weekend in Schoonebeek. This will be the first inspection we’ve ever participated in. Silvester is a very sweet, energetic, and eager-to-learn foal who loves to put on a little show in the pasture.”
“Because we really love Welsh ponies and Welsh breeding, we’ve been buying more Welsh ponies lately. We’ve bought a number of very nice young mares and, two years ago, a very handsome colt. We plan to present that colt at the stallion inspection next year, and two of our own mares are now in foal to him, with the last mare having been bred,” concludes David Dekker.
