New pony competition: Dutch Pony Championship

Thanks to the cooperation of the three major sport pony studbooks, a full-fledged young sport pony competition is finally returning this year: the Dutch Pony Championship!

“Our sport ponies deserve a championship”

Last year, a group of enthusiasts of high-quality sport ponies got together to advocate for a championship for young Dutch sport ponies. “We are extremely proud that we succeeded in getting breeders and studbooks on board with our view that Dutch sport ponies deserve a championship,” said Lars Pronk, chairman of the Dutch Pony Championship Foundation. “It’s been years since a competition like this for young ponies took place, and we thought that was a real shame. After all, the Netherlands has fantastic, high-quality ponies with the presence, movement, and character to stand out in the sport. And everyone should know that!”

Three studbooks

The three major sport pony studbooks—the Dutch New Forest Pony Studbook (NNFPS), the Dutch Welsh Pony and Cob Studbook (NWPCS), and the Dutch Riding Horse and Pony Studbook (NRPS)—are fully behind the Dutch Pony Championship. The preliminary rounds take place at the regional inspections organized by these studbooks. The finals are held at the end of the summer.

The Connection Between Sports and Breeding

Pronk, the rest of the board, and the studbooks are looking forward to the Dutch Pony Championship, the event where riders, owners, and breeders come together. It’s where the connection between sport and breeding is made!
