Astrid van Grootheest and her father, Wim, breed Welsh ponies in various categories under the name Stal Roosendaal. At the inspection in Heteren, their Welsh Partbred breeding product, Roosendaal’s Summertime, was awarded the “ster” designation and also became the adult champion.
The line from which Summertime was bred is the fourth generation of Welsh Partbreds from the van Grootheest family. The Welsh Partbred line originated in 1994 when the Welsh B mare Sylvia was crossed with the stallion Cupkeshof Winobert (formerly Section K). The goal was to breed larger sport ponies with the same Welsh characteristics, temperament, and athletic ability as the small Sylvia. This effort has been very successful.
Summertime is one of the last daughters of Leunsveld’s Winston, who is now competing as a gelding. When asked why they chose Winston back then, Astrid says she was charmed by his beautiful front, his movement, and his lovely coat color.
Summertime is competing in L2 dressage alongside the other horses and has also been inseminated with Cassanova du Bois.
