Vera and Sven with Masja, winners of the Fancy Dress Contest

Ten-year-old Vera and thirteen-year-old Sven, riding the Welsh B pony Masja, won the 2021 Fancy Dress Competition, organized by the NWPCS Youth Committee. Judge Helma de Jong is full of praise: “So much work and attention has been devoted to the overall presentation here.”

She continues: “Attention has been paid to every detail, from the little ghost’s shiny, polished riding boots to the homemade ghost catcher. And the pony has also been transformed into a spooky skeleton. We appreciate your creativity as well as the effort you put into making this happen.”

Vera and Sven won a beautiful NWPCS State Championship blanket for Masja.

The Cutest

The second prize—an NWPCS halter set for the cutest photo—was won by Froukje van Burk with Wilsline Silverbell. “Two adorable unicorns. You two would fit right into a Walt Disney movie. And what a beautiful white tail that pony has,” says Helma de Jong.

Froukje submitted another photo and took second place as Little Red Riding Hood with her Bijsterhof’s Destiny’s Child (NWR). This photo, taken by Laura Dijkslag Photography, was taken when Froukje was 9 years old. “This photo is very special. It exudes an almost mystical atmosphere, as if you’re stepping right into a fairy tale book; the lantern enhances this feeling. The dress and the beautiful skirts underneath complete the picture.”

Beautiful photos

Helma de Jong is thrilled with all the photos that were submitted: “Dear participants in the 2021 Fancy Dress Competition, you’ve all sent in such wonderful photos. It was a great pleasure to judge them. This was also a very difficult task, and the scores were very close. Kudos to all of you and to the people who helped you with your ponies, costumes, face paint, and taking the photos. I’m so proud of you!”
