Elando
On Monday, November 2, the Welsh K (now NWR) stallion Elando (Elan xx X Bryn Bach) passed away at the age of 30.

Elando was born on June 3, 1990. The previous year, his breeder, W. Kessels of Heijen, had crossed his Preferent Section B mare Lamiera (by Bryn Bach) with the English Thoroughbred Elan (by Wiesenklee xx).
H.J. de Wilde from Wirdum bought Elando when he was four years old. Liselore Werkman-Bras has been the owner of the bay since 2016, but has known him for much longer. “I started riding Elando when he was four. He had just been rejected during the performance test due to a hoof abscess. De Wilde stabled him at our Biessum riding school, and he remained there until his death.”
Sport Predicate
Elando earned a Z2 dressage rating among horses, which also earned him the "sport" predicate. After passing a temperament test (on which he scored an 8), he was subsequently registered as an NWPCS studbook stallion.

Elando’s offspring, just like him, have performed well in the sport. Liselore: “I still come across his offspring regularly. There are also two of his geldings at our riding schools in Delfzijl and Veendam.”
30 years
In 2016, Liselore took over Elando from De Wilde. “So he was already 26 years old at that point. I was still riding him recreationally back then, but he had been retired for the past few years. In 2014, he was diagnosed with PPID, and although he responded well to the medication, I did notice that his condition deteriorated rapidly, especially in the last year. So on November 2, with a heavy heart, I had to have him euthanized.”
