Kooihúster Teake

Kooihúster Teake, son of Vita Nova's Hanassie and the crown, elite mare Kooihúster Ytsje (by Burtsye Orpheus), passed away in France at the age of 32. With the death of this top stallion, another chapter of the highly successful Kooihúster breeding of the late Schelte and Jante van der Burg has been closed.

Kooihúster Teake was also approved as a breeding stallion in Germany, France and Belgium. Teake stood out head and shoulders above European pony breeding: to date, he is the only pony in Europe to have participated in the European championships in both jumping (1997) and dressage (2005).

After his approval by the NWPCS, Teake was covered by Frans Kanters for a few years, who brought him out in the sport under the name Take it Easy. At the NRPS, Teake's daughter Anne van Klaverborch is a very influential broodmare. She is dam of four approved stallions Kasanova van Klaverborch, Khadiboj van Klaverborch, Kalido van Klaverborch and Kyoto B.R. Kanters bred with Teake the German approved stallion Were Di's Aron with high marks.

Breeding and sports

Teake himself was also successful in Germany, not only in breeding but also in jumping competitions. The Van Bussel family brought the stallion back to the Netherlands and was successfully brought out at international show jumping competitions by daughter Ellen. In 1997 they were part of the Dutch European Championship team together. The striking stallion was then purchased by the Whitaker jumping family for son Robert.

In 2000, Kooihúster Teake was purchased by the French syndicate Syndicat Linaro. In France he was successfully performed in dressage and used for breeding, including through Haras National, under the name Teake it Easy SL.

He was eventually selected for the French European Championship dressage team in 2005 and was French national champion Z2 in the same year.

Successful offspring

Several of his offspring have achieved exceptional performances in France, including the champion pony Virtuose Teakitina. This mare has achieved many (inter)national successes in eventing. Another mare, d'Opale des Vents, was a member of the French dressage team in 2011. This shows once again how strong Teake has passed on his sport genes combined with a fantastic character.

Teake spent the last years of his life at the stud Haras de Cordemais. He lives on in many successful offspring.
