Henk Jansen, Wim Jansen, Anton ter Bogt, Jan Rougoor and Jan van Drie were honored as Volunteers of the Year at the NWPCS New Year's Reception on Saturday, January 18, 2020. Board member Louis Roeters introduced them on the spot, as appropriate, to those present.

Henk & Wim Jansen

Henk and Wim Jansen are always called ‘the Jansen boys’ by Jan Lanters. Jan Lanters and his men are a household name in the East Division and later Central Division. Volunteers pure and simple. They are all-rounders, whether it is setting out lanes, building obstacles or directing traffic. The men are always there before dawn to roll up their sleeves at regional, national and international judging, fields days, Welsh Cup, touring, etc. etc. etc. They do all this without frills and frills.

Anton ter Bogt

Anton ter Bogt has been an NWR breeder for many years under the stable name Goldwind Empire. For example, Goldwind Empire's elite mare First Lady is a stable icon. Ter Bogt regularly participates in inspections and is also always closely involved in the sport. As such, he is no stranger to pony clubs and competitions in the region. Along the line he has, as it goes, also become involved in volunteer activities within our studbook. So he is regularly ringmaster, helps building and setting out dressage rings and other things at regional and national inspections, fields days and Welsh cup. Just to name a few spearheads. He is also a man who not only lets his hands do the talking, but also has an active attitude at meetings and gatherings, knows how to have his say and makes no bones about it.

Jan Rougoor

Jan Rougoor grew up with Welsh ponies from home - in Lintelo. Senior bred, among others, the section B studbook stallion Brakenshoeve Emiel. Rougoor became a farrier and after his wedding to Marian, who was active in riding, he went to live at the Smidshoeve in Gaanderen. During the glory days of the Welsh harness pony competition, Jan belonged to the top for many years. Son Erik also entered the arena when he was of age. Both daughters Alice and Miranda have also been very active and successful Welsh riders from an early age. Also always willing to cooperate with demonstrations and other PR activities and shows, such as during the 40th anniversary where he put on an unforgettable show in Urker costume. For many years he has also been ‘farrier on duty’ at regional and national shows and other stall book events. After the winding down of the activities in the harness pony competition, the freed up time was used for further development of the volunteer work for the studbook, with the emphasis from home on the field day, Welsh Cup and the use categories.

Jan van Drie

Jan van Drie is NWR breeder under the name Stal Bijsterhof, stallion breeder of repute, Welsh family man, association man, riding, organizer, administrator. Who doesn't know him! Van Drie is active on many fronts, at the Hippisch Verband Putten, the pony club, the Midden department and our entire studbook. For many years he and his wife Ina have been closely involved in the organization of the Sports Day and also for many years now, together with Henk Beudel, in the organization of the stallion approval. At home on many markets and always supported by the whole family of which the grandchildren are very familiar with the word Welsh. Jan van Drie is a man of deeds, not words!‘
