‘It’s five to twelve’ was the subject line of the invitation sent by the interim board to the members of the South Chapter, urging them to attend the chapter meeting.
In recent years, interest in the chapter meetings had dropped to a minimum, and a movement had been launched to dissolve the chapter.
For the Members' Council and the Executive Board, disbanding chapters is not an option. With three chapters, staying close to the members is truly the bare minimum and essential to keeping the association healthy and manageable.
The 50 members in attendance were unanimous in their support for the continued existence of the South Chapter, and the nomination of the new treasurer, Emmalie van Welie, was approved by acclamation.
Bart Reinders of Stal Heidepeel, a resident of Dieren, offered to serve as chair last week. Since the statutory deadline for informing the members of this matter had passed, the meeting approved the proposal with applause to appoint Bart as interim chair and to address the procedure for formalizing this in accordance with the bylaws during the preparations for the 2020 spring meeting.
Together with the remaining board member, Kitty Jonker, the chapter board is once again able to take over from the interim board as of October 30, 2019. They are looking to recruit two more board members to address this vulnerability and better distribute the responsibilities.
The evening was once again marked by that “southern” warmth and friendliness, but also by a discussion about which parts of the draft breeding plan should be forwarded to the Members’ Council. .
The meeting made a clear decision to no longer organize the Young Stock and Stallion Show as a chapter activity and to leave it to a private initiative.
Following an interesting presentation by Danielle Arts on breeding in the 21st century, the evening came to a close, and the interim board handed over its duties to its successors.
Sincerely,
Cor de Jong and Piet Peters.
