Ellen Wijdenes and her Welsh A gelding Wrentnall Red Fox (by Brierdene Ben Hur) were crowned All-Around Champions on September 7, 2019, at the Welsh Horse Day in Putten. Earlier this year, they also claimed this all-around title at Sportdag Noord, which led to them being honored last Saturday at the Hippisch Verband Putten grounds as the 2019 Supreme All-Around Driving Champions.
In Putten, Ellen and ‘Teddy’—as she affectionately calls her 1.12-meter-tall Wrentnall Red Fox—took first and second place in the L-level dressage with scores of 215 and 206 points. Marlies van Drie and Aladin scored 204 and 208.5 points in the same class, placing second and first, respectively.
In the first ring, Monique Brouwer also scored over 200 with Warmtebron’s Niamigo. With 200.5 points, she won the M class.
Skill
In the L-class dressage, Ellen and Teddy incurred 1.5 penalty points while riding in a carriage borrowed from the Zoet family. Wijdenes was not allowed to compete in the dressage with her sulky. She finished second here behind Daisy Kempenaar with Vechtzicht’s Casco, who drove a clear first round but incurred one penalty point in the jump-off. In the second course, however, Daisy and Casco drove a double clear round.
Jorden Zoet with Vikariëns Joshua (BB), Ank Wickel with Rondo’s Bright (M), Mirjam Wage–Van den Bogaard with Winalda (M), and Kim de Groot with Kastanjehof Amico and Breezer (L pair) all completed a clear first round.
Klazien Kleermaker and Fleur were the best of the day in the Z class, with two clear rounds.
Free Skating and Best Performance
Ellen Wijdenes and Wrentnal Red Fox won the freestyle to music with a score of over 67%, ahead of Marlies van Drie, who scored 65.63 percent with Aladin.
Ank Wickel took top honors with Diva in the best-performing driving pony class. Ellen and Teddy placed second in this class.
A Flurry of Awards
A day later, Ellen Wijdenes and Wrentnall Red Fox also became North Holland champions in L-level dressage. In addition, they won the sulky agility class at the championship, which helped ensure that Wijdenes, riding Teddy and her other top horse Roos, also became the North Holland agility champion.
Last weekend's driving competition earned Wijdenes no fewer than 9 trophies, 11 ribbons, 2 sashes, and 3 blankets!
