The Hippiade Pony Show was held on August 24, 2019, at the KNHS Center in Ermelo. Of course, many Welsh ponies also did well.

The Welsh ponies that won medals are:

L2-DE

Bronze: Leuns Veld’s Cassini (by Orchard (G) Wildeman) with Imme Schraag

L2-C
Gold
: Marieton’s Vivaldie (by Rietheim’s Hilbert) with Jemaine Hendrick

Champion Jemaine Hendrick really made the champagne pop on the podium. Together with her pony, Marieton’s Vivaldie, she delivered an outstanding performance that earned her the victory in the L2 Cat. C class.

Jemaine says, ‘I think it’s really cool to be here. But it’s also a little nerve-wracking, because this is my first time competing at the Hippiade. My test went really well, even though the warm-up didn’t go quite as planned. My strongest points in the scoring are the medium trot and yielding.’

L2-AB
Gold
: Prins Beatle (by Powys Sprite) with Fem Van den Hurk

For dressage champion Fem van den Hurk, the victory in the L2 Class, Category A/B, came as a complete surprise. She says: ‘Normally, my pony Prins Beatle can be a bit sluggish, but luckily he was very eager today. I’ve been riding him for two years now, and he can be a bit mischievous at times, but he’s also very sweet. Last year we were reserve champion, and now this year we’re champion—that’s really cool.’

L1-C
Gold: Heidepeel’s Constantijn (by Equus Raspoetin) with Yelin Kayalar
Silver: Willow Tree Garwyn (by Thistledown Lawrence of Arabia) with Sophie Van Rooij

Seven-year-old Heidepeel’s Constantijn won the championship in Ermelo for the sixth time. This time, he was ridden by Yelin Kayalar, who took over the top pony from Gwendolyn Krieger.

“I did make a few mistakes in the test, but I just kept riding,’ says Yelin. ”I want to move up to Z2. Heidepeel’s Constantijn is a very special pony—he’s beautiful, very talented, and has lovely movements. Constantijn has already competed at the Z2 level with Gwendolyn Krieger. I take lessons from her mother, Erica Krieger.“ The C-level pony already held his own among the D-level ponies in the young dressage pony championship and has already won many titles.

L1-AB
Gold: Caehen Deano (by Criccieth Buth) with Jessica Nesselaar
Bronze: Heidepeel’s Natalja (by Equus Raspoetin) with Pippa den Toom

It was Jessica Nesselaar and her pony Caehen Deano’s final competition together. Jessica brought their competitive career to a spectacular close by winning the championship title in the L1 Class A/B. Jessica says with a smile, ‘After five years, I’m starting to get a little too big for him. Luckily, he gets to stay.’

Her mother adds, ‘Jessica said herself that if he were to leave, she’d never be happy again. So he’s staying right here with us at the stable. Caehen Deano is a bit of a mischievous pony. He’s always doing ‘something silly,’ like running or suddenly stopping, but luckily he was very well-behaved today.’

B-C
Silver
: Oakville Cream Cracker (by Stoak Tudor) with Rubi van Huijgenvoort

B-AB
Gold
: Krien’s Dion (by Vikanriën’s Joint Venture) with Jolien Duijts

Welsh ponies also placed in the jumping competition, but fell just short of a podium finish.

Sanne Glissenaar and Riton Cupido won the silver medal. Sanne, who has been competing with Riton Cupido for nearly two years now, has already qualified for the Dutch National Championships four times by winning the Utrecht Regional Championship four years in a row. At the Dutch National Championships, they won silver in Class B, bronze in L1, bronze in L2, and silver in M1.

“Cupido is truly amazing—so reliable and always eager to work for Sanne. It was a great combination,” said Marjan van Dam. “Sanne, who is unfortunately getting too big for Cupido, is now riding a Golden Dream—also a Welsh pony, but a C. Cupido has been sold to a 7-year-old girl who is absolutely thrilled with him. It wasn’t until after she’d ridden her test at her last competition that it really hit Sanne—which brought a few tears, and not just for her.”

Featured: Willow Tree Garwyn

At the Limburg Regional Championships in Meerlo, Sophie van Rooij and her C-pony Willow Tree Garwyn were crowned Limburg champions in both L1 dressage and B-level show jumping. At the Hippiade, the pair were named reserve champions in L1 dressage, and at the club championship, they rode a clear round and helped their Pony Club St. Jan Merselo secure the bronze medal.

Four Champions

The Hill Riders

The Heuvelruiters Pony Club from Wezep was crowned Club Champion. The team included three Welsh ponies: Yasmin Westerink riding the studbook stallion Coelenhage’s Happy Hour, Dianne Den Besten riding Enkershof Irna, and Maud Leeuwis riding Jumping Jack.
