Patrick Wormgoor has qualified with Newchallenge's Sovereign, sport and call sign Soef, after a fantastic driving season to participate in the NK Compound Driving in Hengelo (G.) on Sept. 6 and 7.

Wormgoor, Soef and regular groom (and partner) Ellen Lievestro started the outdoor season on April 6 and 7 with a win in Eefde/Gorssel. They left nine competitors there behind and even won by more than 20 points. “We are on track like this,” Wormgoor said afterwards.

District Champion

To qualify for participation in the NK, Wormgoor took part in the district championships in Wenum Wiesel on July 13 and 14. The dressage already earned him first place in the standings with 46.17 penalty points, and no penalty points were added in the skill. “Not bad so far,” Wormgoor said after Day 1.

With a lead of 10 points, the combination started the next day in the marathon. And there he achieved second place with Suf, more than enough for the final victory.

‘Heads up and angling in for victory’

Patrick Wormgoor: “Saturday we started with a dike of a dressage test that was good for 46.17 penalty points! A new personal record, but above all a mighty fine feeling. Then a skill out of the book. The assignment for the marathon was clear: keep your head up and angling for victory. Suf was not at his very best on marathon day, but fortunately we did not have to go to the max. With a very small difference the marathon ended with a second place. More than enough to win the race and also the District Championship East. This qualifies me for the NK that will be organized at our club in Hengelo. Training towards the NK now. New goal and new challenge!”

Dressage & Skill Cup

In between, Soef was also authentically harnessed, competing with Patrick for the Achterhoek Cups. He managed to win the Achterhoek Bokaal Vaardigheid and the Hippisch Achterhoek Bokaal Dressage & Vaardigheid for the second year in a row.

Foals were born. And Wormgoor and Lievestro participated in Welsh selections, including the reserve day championship in Assen for Newchallenge Rhoswena.

Suf

Welsh section C pony Suf was born in April 2011. His breeders Patrick Wormgoor and Ellen Lievestro gave him the studbook name New Challenge's Sovereign. The gelding's sire is Neuaddparc The Squire and his dam is the crown mare Washingpool Angharad (Parc Hywel x Synod Replay).

New Challenge Sovereign became foal champion in 2011 both at the regional inspection in Hellendoorn and at the Central Mare Inspection in Kootwijk. Meanwhile, he is fully used for the sport.
