Rosita Quak (26) and the Welsh Cob High Flown's Valmai (Tynyrheol Cymbro x Tireinon High Kloon) debuted in Z2 dressage last month and the first win point is in. The black star mare was born in Wales with the studbook name Tycornel Valmai. Valmai is not only a dressage topper; in fact, she also won champion titles at NWPCS inspections.

Valmai belongs to Kees Vrijhof and Marian Spruijt of the High Flown Stud in Rhoon. “I have been giving riding lessons there for several hours a week on Kees and Marian's Welsh ponies for five years this year,” says Rosita Quak. “Besides that, I mainly work on my own company RQ Horses. I give lessons at people's homes, train horses, accompany riders at competitions and in addition I judge at competitions.”

About Valmai's arrival, Quak boldly states, “In 2014 Marian came back from Wales, where we go every year to buy nice ponies. This time she brought with her a gem of a Welsh Cob. A black mare with four white legs, as fat as an elephant and just saddled.”

Judging Champion

The mare had been purchased to use in riding lessons, but soon she proved to have more qualities. “I started training her and she went so well under saddle that Kees and Marian proposed to take her to the regional judging in Heerjansdam in July 2015. I was allowed to show her in hand and ride her in the best going pony class. She achieved first place in that riding class and we were showered with compliments.”

“In hand she also performed super! She went through that track like a train, with no need to run with a rattle box or whip behind her. She really enjoyed showing off!”

That year, Tycornel Valmai became section champion and reserve day champion at the regional inspection and reserve section champion at the NMK in Kootwijk where she also became star and first in the class under saddle.

“After that, we focused on the sport. In September 2015 we rode our first tests in the B. We became champions in the B horses and immediately took home five victory points. In 2016 I really started starting her in the spring and in August 2017 I was allowed to enter the ditch, we had won our last points in the M2!”

Last year Z1

Rosita Quak: “In the summer of 2018 we started in Z1 after training hard. we achieved a lot of first places among the KWPN'ers and within a month and a half we already had fourteen profit points in the pocket!”

“Two weeks ago we made our debut in Z2 and our first profit point is in! I am extremely happy and grateful that I get to ride this great mare and want to thank Kees Vrijhof and Marian Spruijt very much for that! Kees also brings me to every competition or inspection and together with my groom Floor Hahn we are a super team!”
