The 2018 Central Stallion Show in a new twist

The weekend of Feb. 9 and 10 was dedicated to the Central Stallion Show. The main ring had been given a different layout this year to make the straw village a meeting place again. During the stallion selection we saw the black pearl Fronarth Defoe crowned as Day Champion.

On Friday we started the first viewing. During this first viewing 57 stallions received the referral to the second viewing on Saturday. For one stallion this was directly an approval namely the now 25-year-old Maestir Odyssey of Davy Wormgoor and could therefore return on Saturday in the section 10 years and older section a studbook stallions.

On Saturday, we will start in the morning with the already approved stallions and the priming of the yearling that was approved in 2017. From almost all sections we saw the entire yearling returning to the judging lane.

Just before the afternoon break, Ronald Vrolijken known by the stable name Coelenhage was awarded the title “Breeder of the Year” and we watched as Peter Goumans was named an honorary member.

During the afternoon break Carry Coveen took us through the demonstration of menteam Johan van Veluw and menteam of Marjolein van Waarle. These showed that Welsh a ponies have more to offer namely that they present super in the four-horse.

And after the break we will start the second viewing.

We see 5 NWR stallions this year who were referred toward the performance test in the fall. At the WPBR, 2 stallions were given the green light.

In section C & D, the ringmaster did not have to take off his hat during the second viewing and as a result, 5 stallions were approved in section C and 1 in section D this year.

We also saw 9 stallions approved in section B and in section 10 even 10 stallions.
