Welsh ponies Shine at DPC Selection Competition in Lunteren
During the qualifying competition for the Dutch Pony Championship in Lunteren, two young Welsh ponies also competed successfully. In the four-year-old dressage pony class, Pierrot van den Hout and Spoorzicht’s Jersey managed to secure a spot in the top three.
The performances were judged by Paulien Alberts, a member of the permanent DPC judging panel, along with guest judge Denise Nekeman. They evaluated the young ponies based on criteria including the quality of their basic gaits, suppleness, harmony, conformation, and overall impression.
Second Place for Pierrot van den Hout
The four-year-old Pierrot van den Hout (Amalia’s Pieter, breeder H.A. van Erp) was ridden by Whitney de Bruijn and managed to secure a fine second-place finish.
The stallion particularly impressed with his trot. For this component, he received a score of 9 from the judges. His powerful movements and appealing presence contributed to an impressive total score of 81 points.

Spoorzicht’s Jersey, third
Spoorzicht’s Jersey (Beauty W, breeder: Sloof Brothers) also managed to place. Riden by Pleun Sloof, the four-year-old stallion finished in third place.
The jury was particularly impressed by his strong conformation, which was awarded a 9. His canter and overall harmony were also rated positively. With a total score of 77 points, Spoorzicht’s Jersey rounded out the podium.
This meant that two of the three podium spots in the four-year-old dressage pony class went to Welsh ponies: a great result for Pierrot van den Hout and Spoorzicht’s Jersey at this DPC selection competition.
All eyes in the Dutch Pony Championship are now on the final qualifying competition, which will be held in Lunteren on August 12. For participants, this is the last chance to qualify for the grand dressage final of the Dutch Pony Championship.
