Sign up for the sizzling DPC Jumping Championship with unique grand prizes
After a wonderful Dutch Pony Championship final for four-, five- and six-year-old dressage ponies, on October 5 it is the turn of the jumping ponies in Lathum. And you can be there, to also experience a fantastic day where you and your (young) pony not only ride for the unique prizes, but also learn a lot.
It will be a real jumping pony day at the beautiful accommodation of Hippisch Centrum Lathum. The set-up has changed slightly compared to previous years. Board chairman Lars Pronk explains: “You quickly see that the often also young riders become very eager when it comes to winning, and that is understandable. However, in our eyes a jump-off in which a lot of risk is taken does not yet fit into the training of a four-, five- or six-year-old pony. Hence neat riding, giving the pony time to watch and use his body optimally, is paramount in this jumping championship.”
Positive experience for young pony
For the same reason, the choice was made to have the ponies ridden in groups of three, with each individual combination considering what the pony and rider can handle and in what way the pony can show his jumping qualities to the best advantage. “Three ponies at the same time provides peace and relaxation, allowing the pony to concentrate on his work. If necessary, another combination can ride ahead for a while if an obstacle is perceived as exciting. Or it may be moved down a notch. The well-being and a positive experience for the young pony are important.”

Review
“An additional advantage of this format is that the judges have plenty of time to judge the ponies,” Pronk continued. “This includes canter, going between the obstacles, technique , power and attitude. This creates a ranking that is all about jumping and not a clear round in the fastest time.”
