Twenty three-year-olds, two four-year-olds, and one six-year-old have been nominated for registration in our stud book at the 2024 Stallion Inspection on February 9 and 10. That’s five more than last year’s eighteen; in 2022 we had 29, in 2021 —32; in 2020—26; and five years ago, in 2019—the year of our 60th anniversary—a record number of 37.  Three of the three-year-olds and the six-year-old are registered in the studbook and were therefore already issued training permits last year. All were born on Dutch soil—so no imports. However, two are of full English descent, eleven are by (seven different) English sires, and four are by English dams. Eleven chestnuts, including one dark chestnut and one bristly-coated, four palominos, three bay, two black, one roan black, one double smoky, and a single gray. Of the dams, 8 are Crown-rated (one of which is also secretly “preferent”), 4 “keur,” 3 “ster,” 1 “keur elite,” 1 “keur preferent,” 1 “ster preferent,” 1 “unofficial preferent,” 1 “first prize studbook mare,” and 2 dams registered in the foal book. Three of the dams have already had a son registered in the studbook, and one has had two. Just to start things off for the statisticians.

Stougjeshoeve Armani, born 2016, son of Stougjeshoeve Escudo, s.s. Breeton Dai Elite, g.s.s. Eyarth Rio Preferent, out of Eyarth Beka, by Carwed Charmer, registered as a studbook stallion at the HK 2019, the top scorer, represented by 3 sons. His son Stougjeshoeve Everdale was registered at the HK 2022. Armani had 4 offspring entered in our records in 2019, 10 in 2020, and 9 in 2021, and has been sold to the United States for competition.  Three of the five sons from Stougjeshoeve Armani’s last Dutch edition are now making their debut, namely:
1. Lakeway’s Stanford, 1st prize foal at Tolbert, sired by Lakeway’s Amber, born 2010, black, dam’s sire: Weydown Lionheart, dam’s dam: Weltevreden’s Opaal, rated “Keur Preferent”;
2. Vino De Luxe vd Eikenhoeve, 1e Foal premium, Putten Inspection, sire: Lakeway’s Vienna, born 2010, “keur”; dam: Bekveld’s Dave; maternal grandsire: Lakeway’s Charmayne, “keur preferent”;
3. Golden Eagle’s Sandor, 1st prize at the 2021 Heteren Foal Show, by Linde Hoeve Senstone Dailight, a roan, born in 2014; dam: Breeton Dai Elite; sire: Linde Hoeve’s Stefanie, Keur Elite.

Following a hat trick by Stougjeshoeve Armani, the top scorer, we see five stallions represented by two sons each: Woldberg’s Rossini, JS Bastian, Byley Aragorn, Paddock Diplomat, and Cwrtycadno Clyndwr.

Van Woldberg’s Rossini, born 2013, s. Boston Bonaparte, gg. Varndell Right Royal, ggg. Downland Mandarin, d. Woldberg’s Foxtrot (ster, preferent), dg. Linde Hoeve’s Sebastiaan, preferent, registered and Day Champion at the HK 2019 and Day Champion at the HK 2020, have sired, from 2017 through 2023—spanning six years—  39 offspring have been registered in our records. At the HK 2023, his son Moonlight H was entered as Best Three-Year-Old and his son Wheemhoeve’s Cliffhanger was placed 1st. Cliffhanger was sold to the United States last spring for competition, where his sire, Rossini—to no one’s surprise—is now making a splash in both dressage and show jumping. The pair of Rossini’s offspring born in 2021 that will now be appearing in the arena are:
1. Wheemhoeve’s Ferron, s. Wheemhoeve’s Gwyneth, b. 2012, crown, dam’s sire: Paddock Sahara, dam’s dam’s sire: Wheemhoeve’s Marquisite, ster;
2. Woldberg’s Calvados, 1e Tolbert foal premium, dam: Eyarth Larissa, born 2010, unofficially classified as “preferent,” whose son Woldberg’s Crescendo was registered as a studbook stallion in 2021; maternal grandsire: Eyarth Ophelia; maternal great-granddam: Hilin Etifedd.

JS Bastian, b. 2017, 1b HK 2020, s. Rondo’s Burberry, g.s. Boston Bonaparte, g.g.s. Varndell Right Royal, m. Spring Star’s Joëlle, keur, became—thanks to the live stream—effectively US Bastian in no time at all, although the American buyer subsequently chose not to have him flown over after his first season, but instead to use him for breeding in Germany. JS Bastian’s first crop, 2021, includes 9 sons and 1 daughter, and his second and final crop with us, 2022, includes 2 sons and 2 daughters.
1. Rondo’s Apache, the firstborn, is by Rondo’s Atlanta, born in 2014, Ster Preferent, out of Rondo’s Gentleman and Cadlanvalley Arabesque, Ster. Rondo’s Apache will be accompanied to the upcoming HK by his half-brother and stablemate:
2. Rondo’s Grandeur, out of Rondo’s Gucci, star, dam: Priestwood Sonnet, sire: Steehorst Free Golden Girl, keur.

Byley Aragorn, born 2012, s. Hilin Tattoo, g.s. Eyarth Tayma, s.s. Carwed Charmer, by Eyarth Alaw, has 58 offspring from the 2018 through 2023 crops and was exported to Canada as a gelding in 2022. From his legacy, the following are being presented:
1. Vosco’s Hidden Secret, out of Amika, born in 2009, crown (and secretly preferred) and, among other things, dam of studbook son Vosco’s Amir, out of ’t Hogeland’s Ferdinand (also unofficially preferent), s. Vosco’s Millésana; and
2. Zweelerhof’s Ferry, s. Zweelerhof’s Robine, b. 2012, keur, d. Paddock Sahara, s. Hambroek’s Romy, keur

Paddock Diplomat, b. 2016, s. Laithehill Oberon, gg. Heaton Romeo, tgg. Eyarth Rio preferent, out of Paddock Pashima, has sired 29 offspring since 2020 and last year saw his son Wildzang’s A Dream Oberon from his first crop registered in the studbook at the re-inspection. Just like Wheemhoeve’s Cliffhanger, we won’t be seeing A Dream Oberon—also a 4-year-old—at the upcoming Stallion Inspection, as he too has emigrated to the land of the Stars and Stripes for a career in the sport. Paddock Diplomat will nevertheless be represented by horses from both his first and second crops, namely:
1. Wildzang’s Golden Y, born 2020, sire: Wildzang’s Roswita, born 2000, Keur Elite; dam: Shamrock Mr. Oliver, Elite
2. Wildzang’s Gala’s Gemini, (born 2021), sired by Wildzang’s Golden Gala, born 2014, keur, dam: Wildzang’s Lustre Madog, sire: Wildzang’s Roswita, keur elite. Some prefer the dam, others the daughter; Paddock Diplomat generously made no distinction—partly in favor of the generational interval. Wildzang’s Roswita, keur elite—who, sadly, is no longer with us—is also known as the dam of the studbook stallions Wildzang’s Goldleaf and Wildzang’s Golden Mark.

The last pair of half-brothers to be seen for the first time from Koertiekatno Glindoer—as they pronounce the name written as Cwrtycadno Glyndwr in Wales. He is a son of Eyarth Beau Geste, s. Boston Bentick, g.g. Varndell Right Royal, out of Cwrtycadno Glain, and has sired 27 offspring with us since 2020, of which the following pair is being presented:
1. Awlwoods Dancing Avatar, s. Oostdijk’s Dancing Queen, b. 2014, keur, (National Day Champion CK 2018), dam’s sire: Stougjeshoeve Escudo, dam’s dam’s sire: Oostdijk’s Dancing Delyth, Crown Preferent Sport.
2. New Challenge’s Groovy, s. Moelgarnedd Dyddgan, b. 2016, col., d. Moelgarnedd Stadros, m. Moelgarnedd Dilys. That concludes the list of sires with more than one iron in the fire.

Eyarth Rio Preferent, dam’s dam: Cadlanvalley Karisma, born 2013, Keur, dam’s dam: Russetwood Elation, dam’s dam’s dam: Cadlanvalley Elouise;

Spring Star’s Mees, by Waxwing Eyecatcher, with 38 offspring since 2019, out of Moelview Masquerade, out of Moelview Mohawk, 1st prize in the HK 2021 face mask class, now active in competition in the U.S., s. Hoge Linthorst Fyglyd, s. Hilin Stormy Night, with 7 offspring to date as of 2021, gs. Hilin Carnedd, ggs. Finally, to round out the trio of older horses alongside the previously mentioned 4-year-old Paddock Diplomat son Wildzang’s Golden Y:
