Welsh-bred ponies won in all three age categories at the Dutch Pony Championship selection in Lunteren Saturday, July 29. Onyx Emelwerth was again first in the four-year-olds. The NWPCS-bred and NRPS-approved stallion Hexagon's Dragonfly (or Monchyndaear Dragonfly in Amber) won in the five-year-olds and the NWPCS Studbook stallion Nieuwmoed's Milord finished first in the six-year-olds.
Together with Kim Noordijk, Kirsten Beckers was in the lane Saturday, July 29, judging the DPC selection in Lunteren.
Four-year-olds
Winning at the 4-year-olds, Willisha Holzken just does it again.
- 1 Willisha Holzken with the gelding Onyx Emelwerth earned 85.5 points.
Now officially, where Willisha Holzken started HC on July 22 in Tolbert during the selection, she did now officially. With that she also grabbed the victory and the beautiful blanket, sponsored by Hypostore, was put on her pony for the award ceremony. She sent Onyx Emelwerth (by Despacito AT) to 85.5 points. “Willisha her pony was really super nice in the bridle. The image was very natural. Onyx was tremendously level-headed and easy in the lane. He can walk and canter very well. Even the yielding was already performed very correctly.”
Five-year-olds
In place one in the five-year-olds was an NRPS stallion, but Welsh bred. In place three was also a Welsh and with as many points as the number two.
- 1 Sophie van Iwaarden with the stallion Hexagon's Dragonfly scored 88 points
- 3 Danique Mostert with the gelding Heidepeels Stitch earned 84 points.
“The group of five-year-old ponies had the most quality,” says Kirsten Beckers. “Dragonfly can trot really fantastic - that's how you want them all to go through the track. So much tact and looseness. And then a fantastic bridle. He shifts very easily, stayed nice in the side gaits and ran just as nice through the voltages.”
The NWPCS bred and NRPS approved stallion sired Hexagon's Double Dutch and is out of a Welsh section B dam (Kenwood's princess Milly). He was presented by Sophie van Iwaarden. Together they achieved a total of 88 points. “Kim and I now rated the canter 8.5; for a higher point we would then like to see the looseness of the trot and that flexion in the hind leg a little more in the canter as well.”
Third place, there was for Danique Mostert and Heidepeel's Stitch (by Waxwing Penny Guy). Although he goes through life as a gelding these days, this NWPCS pony was previously approved by the Westphalia studbook.
Six-year-olds
Also a first and in addition a second place in the six-year-olds for the Welsh ponies.
- 1 Ize Herwers with the stallion Nieuwmoed's Milord scored 83 points.
- 2 Gigi Philipsen with the gelding Magic Mike Emelwerth scored 79.5 points.
In the six-year-olds, victory went to the NWPCS-approved stallion Nieuwmoed's Milord (by Turfhorst Landlord), who ran to 83 points with Ize Herwers in the saddle. “This pony trotted very nicely especially the first part of the test; halfway through it weakened a bit. But also this pony had good flexion in the joints and was very nicely built upwards. A fine bridle completed the picture,” Kirsten said.
Gigi Philipsen rode Magic Mike Emelwerth (by D-Day AT) to second place with 79.5 points.
