.

Richard Dekkers was appointed last night by the Council of Members as the new chairman of the main board of the NWPCS.

The Council of Members of the NWPCS has unanimously approved the nomination of the Confidential Committee. “We are delighted with this appointment,” announces Chairman Henriette Fraser. “We are confident that Richard Dekkers will continue and deepen the initiated course of the Studbook. With his administrative background, including chairman of Division North and member of the Council of Members, and substantive knowledge of Welsh breeding, he will dedicate himself to our wonderful studbook in the coming years.”

Richard Dekkers, 44 years old, living in Zandpol (near Emmen), is in daily life manager Horeca/Retail and Logistics at WILDLANDS ADVENTURE ZOO EMMEN. 30 Years ago he got his first Welsh pony and now, together with his partner Martijn, active and successful breeder of Welsh section B ponies under the name stable Ribbon. Richard commented, “The fun and togetherness among breeders makes our hobby unique, we have made many friends and acquaintances who all have the love for the Welsh breed.”

Richard on his presidency: “Our association has made great strides in recent years and there is still much work to do. The main board needs further strengthening and a number of committees need to be filled. I would like to use the coming time to research what is going on among the members and especially to talk a lot with them, the various committees and department boards. In order to continue building OUR studbook. We also have to work on a future vision, where do we want to go together, which structure suits us best, how does society look at us and especially how do we make new members enthusiastic for our beautiful WELSHPONY. I look forward to working with the members to build on the very solid foundation that has been laid down by the past main board, to build on that together with the main board.”

Pete on his succession: “It is nice that Richard succeeds me, 15 years ago he was the one who sold us the first Welsh B mare and advised us to become a member of the studbook and to go to the inspection with this mare. In retrospect, this was very good advice and we have taken up breeding ponies again and are enjoying it very much.”

With the arrival of the new chairman, the presidency of Piet Peters comes to an end. Over 7 years he has fully dedicated himself to the studbook. With this he has, in cooperation with several members of the main board and the Council of Members, laid a solid foundation and the studbook is future proof.

The new chairman, after a transfer of responsibilities and duties by outgoing chairman Piet Peters, will begin on July 1, 2023. Piet will thereafter support the new chairman as needed. Piet's farewell will be on Saturday, August 26, at the Central Mare Inspection.

The Council of Members expresses its great appreciation to the other members of the main board who have done a lot of work during the past period, and is confident that under Richard's leadership the main board will be full again in the near future.

On behalf of the Council of Members,

Jet Fraser, chairperson Council of Members
