Petition: ‘an honest debate on horse handling’

We horse and pony owners and enthusiasts love our horses and ponies. They are our passion and pride. Opinions about handling horses differ. That makes sense. We have different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. As an equine industry, we are open to debate and dialogue about how we treat horses. But based on accurate information.

Increasingly, we are seeing animal activists with incorrect information want to convince politicians and media of their one-sided and extremist views. We are happy to engage in the debate about horse welfare: we live for our horses, and horse welfare is therefore the most important thing when dealing with horses.

Our call

We call for a open dialogue. This can only take place if information is presented to society in the right context. We are concerned about the polarizing and stigmatizing effect by animal activists. And therefore call on the government and media to:

• Continue to check supplied information for facts and context
• Applying a hearing
• Facilitate honest debate and open dialogue
