Starting April 21, all horses kept in the Netherlands must be registered at the location where they are housed. The main reason for this tightening of the regulations is that it will allow for a rapid response in the event of an animal disease or a potential threat to public health.

The registration requirement distinguishes between the horse owner and the facility owner. A horse owner is responsible for identifying the horse using a microchip, passport, and registration with a Dutch passport-issuing authority.

The facility owner is responsible for registering the horses at their facility using their UBN number with the RVO. On the SRP website contains information about the changes effective April 21.

You'll find here Information on how horses and the facilities where they are kept must be registered. It also includes a list of frequently asked questions and their answers.
