During the last competition competition of the KNHS Divoza Championship for young dressage ponies on July 27 in Tolbert, the categories four-, five- and six-year-old ponies all had a clear leader. All three of these ponies bred by Coelenhage Stables in Wezep were all presented very nicely by their riders, achieving scores above 80 points.
The competition in Tolbert was the last opportunity for participants to secure a qualification for the final on Aug. 17 in Kootwijk. The organization was in the hands of the Dutch Welsh Pony and Cob Studbook (NWPCS) and the ponies were judged by judges Gerda Bos-Boers and Veronique Roerink.
Veronique tells what she noticed about this competition: “It was a hot day, but fortunately the ponies didn't seem to be bothered by it. The judging that took place next to the competition ring did cause some ponies some distraction, but fortunately during this competition the participants get enough time and rest to present their ponies nicely. After all, it's all about testing the pony's aptitude for the sport. And if a pony needs an extra round, that's just fine.”
Highest daily score
She continues, “The highest score of the day went to the five-year-old Coelenhage's Happy Hour with Yasmin Westerink. This pony was really a joy to watch. He showed three good gaits, neat transitions and was absolutely very nicely presented.”
On your own two feet
In the four-year-olds the victory went to Coelenhage's Handsome King who scored 82 points with rider Romy Schaftenaar. Veronique comments, “This beautiful Welsh stallion walked the way we like to see in a four-year-old. He was presented kindly, without too much pressure and could already walk nicely on his own legs. He was ridden fine to the hand and showed good balance.”
Every transition hit
The class for six-year-old dressage ponies was won by Elin Brander with Coelenhage's Parco, who also finished at the top two weeks ago at the competition in Tolbert. Judge Veronique says: “This Welsh stallion showed a lot of charisma and was presented very well. He showed a lot of rhythm and every transition was a hit. A small point that could be worked on is that he could be a bit sharper on the leg. But still definitely a fine pony with a lot of potential.”
