NWPCS verstevigt centrale rol op Europees vasteland

Het Nederlands Welsh Pony en Cob Stamboek (NWPCS) heeft de afgelopen jaren een geografisch gebied opgebouwd dat veel verder reikt dan de landsgrenzen. Waar het stamboek van oorsprong vooral nationaal georganiseerd was, vervult het inmiddels een centrale rol voor fokkers en liefhebbers verspreid over heel het Europese vasteland.

Door de verandering van regelgeving als gevolg van de Brexit heeft het moederstamboek, de Welsh Pony & Cob Society (WPCS), minder mogelijkheden om zich op het vasteland te manifesteren als in het verleden. Om fokkers van dienst te kunnen zijn is de samenwerking tussen NWPCS en WPCS de afgelopen jaren verder versterkt. Met veel inzet en toewijding hebben beide stamboeken hun onderlinge band verstevigd, wat een solide basis vormt voor gezamenlijke promotie van het ras in heel Europa.

Voorzitter Richard Dekkers:

“We zien dat als gevolg van de Brexit fokkers uit onder meer Duitsland, België, Frankrijk, Spanje en Oost-Europa zich steeds vaker aansluiten bij onze vereniging. We nemen hierbij een spilfunctie in tussen het Verenigd Koninkrijk en de rest van Europa. Ons grote geografische gebied helpt daarbij: we zijn blij dat we Welsh-liefhebbers op zoveel plekken in Europa kunnen bijstaan met de uitgifte van paspoorten. Ook bij de hengstenkeuring (komend jaar op 6 en 7 februari in Ermelo) verwachten we weer veel buitenlandse belangstelling. En dat is precies wat wij als stamboek willen zijn: een platform waar fokkers uit heel Europa elkaar ontmoeten en samenwerken aan de toekomst van het ras.”

NWPCS strengthens central role on the European mainland

In recent years, the Dutch Welsh Pony and Cob Studbook (NWPCS) has built a geographical reach that extends far beyond national borders. While the studbook was originally organized primarily on a national basis, it now plays a central role for breeders and enthusiasts across the European mainland.

Following regulatory changes brought about by Brexit, the parent studbook, the Welsh Pony & Cob Society (WPCS), has fewer opportunities to maintain the same presence on the mainland as in the past. To ensure continued support for breeders, the collaboration between NWPCS and WPCS has been further strengthened in recent years. With dedication and commitment, both studbooks have consolidated their partnership, establishing a solid foundation for the joint promotion of the breed throughout Europe.

Chairman Richard Dekkers explains:
“As a result of Brexit, we are seeing more and more breeders from Germany, Belgium, France, Spain and Eastern Europe joining our association. This places us in a pivotal position between the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe. Our wide geographical coverage plays an important role in this: we are pleased to support Welsh enthusiasts across so many parts of Europe with the issuing of passports. At the stallion show (to be held next year on 6 and 7 February in Ermelo), we again expect significant international interest. And that is exactly what we, as a studbook, strive to be: a platform where breeders from all over Europe can meet and work together on the future of the breed.”
